“Somebody That I Used To Know..”

I guess I have been inadvertently music blogging quite a bit lately. I hope no one minds too much. I mean, I love music.. well that’s an understatement. I ADORE MUSIC. A day without music is like a day without breakfast. If I don’t have it I’ll live but i’ll be grumpy, unsatisfied and thinking about how my day would have been better if I had it.

On to what I was going to say.

I’ve been listening to this song by Gotye ft. Kimbra (pronounced ‘gore-ti-yeah’.. crazy) called Somebody That I Used To Know. God, how hard this song hits home. Being so close to someone and sharing pretty much everything with them for the better part of 2 years. The first person you’d tell if something amazing happened to you or the person you’d seek out to make you feel better when the world stomps all over you. Then “that thing” that happens to everyone happens and you try and stay friends.. which is impossible, amirite? I mean there might be some guy or gal out there lying to themselves but I bet it still hurts, just a little bit. In this song he keeps singing over and over “..now you’re just somebody that I used to know.” GEEZE, such a powerful line. Along with making a butt-load of sense to me, this is just a beautiful song with a 80’s Peter Gabriel/Phil Collins vibe. A great quiet and subtle build up to the belted vocals that will kick you awake like a bold cup of black coffee.

It’s been a long time since this happened to me and I’m very much over the situation, but how much does it make you think about how people work? I’ll always and forever be fascinated by people, even myself. Ramble ramble ramble, just listen to it and watch the video. It’s a neat video too.
